You've probably heard of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) before, perhaps on the internet, or probably you heard the term from a friend. Although we may not realize it, our world (both digital and analog) is surrounded by user experiences. Hardly will you come across a product that isn't designed based on a reflection of our behavior.

UI and UX design are two important aspects of design in web development. Unarguably so, they are two of the most confusing terms in the tech industry. They both play vital roles in creating a good user experience.

UI/UX design is the art of designing interfaces for websites, mobile apps, or other software. The goal is to create a pleasant experience for users.

What is UI design?

The term "UI" in UI design stands for "User Interface". User interface design is therefore the process through which designers build interfaces for websites, software, or computerized devices, focusing on aesthetics. UI designers aim to create user-centered interfaces, that is interfaces that users find easy to use and pleasurable.

UI design is the part of your website or digital product where people interact with your content. This includes things like navigation menus, buttons, text boxes, images, forms, etc.

A good user interface can increase websites’ conversion rates by up to 200%.

In general, UI design should be clean, simple, intuitive, and functional. Your site needs to be easy to navigate, understand, and use.

What is UX design?

The term "UX" in UX design stands for "User experience". User experience design on the other hand is the process through which designers create products that are usable, efficient, effective, and desirable. It's about making sure that the end result meets all the requirements of the target audience.

70% of online businesses fall through because of bad UX. The ultimate goal of user experience design is to make sure that your product works well for everyone who uses it. A good example of this would be an online banking system. If you're using one, you know how frustrating it can be when something goes wrong. UX design aims to avoid these situations as much as possible.

How do they work together?

People get confused about the difference between the two terms. This is because a user experience designer is also concerned with an application’s user interface. But whereas user interface designers are concerned with deciding how the user interface will look, user experience designers are in charge of determining how the user interface design operates.

The design process is a very collaborative process. As UX designers carry out research and work out the user flow of the website or application, the user interface designer is working on how all the elements will appear to the user on-screen(visual design).

Conclusion

Both UI and UX design have their own strengths and weaknesses. When choosing a company to help you with either of them, consider what you want to achieve and choose accordingly.
